How is the economy and political situation?
Bulgaria joined NATO in 2004 and is expected to be granted European Union membership in 2007. Since 1996, the country has experienced macroeconomic stability and positive growth rates. The currency is the Bulgarian Lev (1 Euro = 1.98 Lev) which is already pegged to the Euro.

Real estate prices in Bulgaria are growing constantly making the country on of the most attractive places in Europe for investment. The Times newspaper says that “if Bulgaria joins the EU there is the possibility that property prices could take off, rewarding early buyers”.

Is visa or any other formalities required to enter the Bulgaria?
A valid passport is all that is required for visitors from the EU and European Free Trade Association (EFTA) member states for stays up to 30 days. In addition, the citizens of Cuba, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, the Republic of Korea, Lithuania, Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia and Montenegro, Tunisia, Turkey and Switzerland may enter the country without a visa for a period of 30 days with a normal valid passport.
A visa is also no longer required of visitors from the U.S, Israel, Japan, Cyprus, Hong Kong, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, for stays of up to 30 days.
A border tax of about $20 will be collected from such individuals on entering the country. If the planned stay is to be more than 30 days, or if traveling on a diplomatic or official passport, a visa is required and must be obtained in advance.

How is the climate?

The country benefits from a temperate continental climate with clearly marked four seasons. A mild Mediterranean influence is felt in the more southerly regions and the Black Sea coast with average summer temperatures of 80+ degrees (fahrenheit) and an average of 1700 sunshine hours from May to October. Winters can be cold in other parts of the country, hence its popularity as a destination for skiers.
